The Unborn
It’s at least worth reading…
Many Republicans simply vote Republican because of abortion. They talk about this a lot, and end all political arguments with abortion. I have many friends and family members who fall into this camp. Two things:
You are entitled to your opinion.
But It is very frustrating to talk to people who only care about this issue, because when they (you) do, the conversation is only about abortion. The assumption is that this single issue is morally superior to all other issues.
It’s frustrating because it’s so unhelpful, the conversations often suck, but also people can say things that aren’t even true because they sound like as if they’re from the moral high ground.
For instance, one pastor I know ended a sermon by saying, “If you vote for abortion, you’ve got blood on your hands”. For instance, the other day I drove past a man holding a sign that said, “Abortion Kills Children”.
Neither of these things are true.
But none of that can be discussed when it comes to abortion rhetoric, if and when the orator is passionate and loud. Any counterpoint goes out the window.
This is problematic.
It’s problematic because there are dozens of important issues in our society. To allow one to both trump and dictate all the others can end up doing vast amounts of damage.
In my opinion, there are many other issues that are more important than the issue of abortion. I think education is more important than abortion. I think housing is more important than abortion. I think taking care of veterans is more important than abortion. I think feeding the hungry is more important than abortion. I think clean water in poor neighborhoods is more important than abortion. I think the quality of air is more important than abortion. I think protecting our Earth is more important than abortion.
And I am not wrong for this. Especially since I believe the aborted go to heaven.
My opinions are based upon the Bible and God’s directives to look out the earth (Gen 1) and the oppressed (Isaiah 1:17).
Voting for people that ignore the cry of the oppressed, but claim to be “Pro Life”, in my opinion, is dangerous. People get into power under the guise of being Pro Life and then start wars, bomb children, deregulate environmental protection, and put in place laws that hurt the needy.
