There was an article in like buzz feed or something that showed ‘selfie fails’. (A selfie is a picture you take of your own self looking cute and then post to the world.) One that makes me laugh really hard is of this guy standing shirtless, in a pose that’s supposed to be tough. He stares at the camera just so, clicks and posts. What he doesn’t realize, though, is he’s standing in front of a mirror; a mirror that reflects his naked butt in the background. It’s such the perfect fail. It’s also, somehow, a great description of a lot of what I deal with on a weekly basis. And a lot of what’s happening in the U.S.
Why is it that gratitude turns to entitlement in such a short period of time?
Like, why is it that once someone comes around a few times, we expect greatness from them? For example, I’ve been (basically) a sub this year. There have been a few schools where staff members have literally said to me, ‘please come again’ or ‘thanks for coming back’. But, once I’ve come back a few times, they expect perfection. It’s obvious that they thanked me because they have a hard time getting people to come to their building; but then a few days later this thanks turns to the expectation of perfection; a perfection that hasn’t happened from the collective whole.
I don’t get this.
But. It does show an attitude that explains some things.
DONALD TRUMP!
Having systems in place that perpetuate themselves, without careful evaluation and adaptation to the times are going to lead to things like Donald Trump. There may be no better example of The System than his (likely) rival, Hillary Clinton. The whole delegate/super delegate/registered democrat thing are awful. Appalling. It’s like even the way we vote makes it so that The System, not the people, choose a candidate. This is not good. The populous is speaking to this. I haven’t heard anyone support Hillary in the circles that I know. They may prefer her to Trump, but as far as actually liking or believing in her, I don’t know anyone. But it makes sense. The things she says don’t align with her votes. She seems like the type of person that would tell you one thing and do the other. Her practices of secrecy are devious, and she seems like she could have just as easily run as a Republican as a Democrat. It’s like the aggregate of her experiences have led to this point, but rather than help her, they harm her.
Is she really the first woman president we want? Is she the shinning example of feminine glory? While her husband was in the white house, he had several affairs, things that brought him in front of congress and got him impeached. But rather than stand up to him, or leave him, or do things a strong woman should, she helped him get rid of the women her husband slept with. That is not power. And even if she, in these cases, is not at fault: her husband certainly is.
And that should matter to women.
It does to me. I would not want one of my sisters – or students for that manner – to stand beside a man that does that to women.
Also, she voted to go to war in Iraq, but then bad talked it when it went badly.
She is also endlessly wealthy.
People have to see this. How can she relate, and help, the every person coming from this level of privilege.
Let’s, at least, be honest.
But when the system allows for this to happen, people start to get fed up, and when people get fed up, we get: The Donald.
(He and Hillary probably have a lot more in common than most people realize), but he owns it. He’s not pretending.
He’s also not a republican, but he got the nomination.
Which is sort of hilarious.
Hilarious in the same way that it is funny when you try and be funny, but post a picture on the internet of your own butt.
