This is Beyond Fucked Up

July 08, 2016 by Thomas Bratt

"I can't really do shit 'cause they got me handcuffed." - Diamond Reynolds -

This woman was in a car with her boyfriend, and police shot him.  This is beyond fucked up.  He worked for a school, obeyed the law, and was killed by police for a broken taillight.

Watching the footage perfectly juxtaposes the cop / citizen dilemma.  Several officers show up, armed with many, many guns.  Yet, their response is to handcuff the VICTIM'S GIRLFRIEND and point guns at HER.

As a white man, I have no business talking about the racial, political, social context of this.  So I won't drone on.  I have thoughts and ideas about some of these issues, but this is not the time.  But as a writer, especially as one that writes from a lens that's religious, contemplative, and prone toward the downtrodden, I must raise the awareness that I can.

The command to listen to the Cry of the Oppressed is one of the biggest reasons I'm drawn to my particular religion, do what I do, and this video shows that cry.

I've read, from several posts and pieces of literature, written from African Americans, that what we Anglos can do is listen.  And that is what I intend to do.  That is why I post.  Listen not to me, but to the victims.

May the content sit in you.

May it marinade.

May it guide you prayers.
