Getting Used to the Idea

To be honest, it took a little bit to get used to the idea that I got a book deal. I’d been writing for so long, and submitting to agents for over a decade, always getting a “no”, that to get a “yes” took a bit to adjust to.

Me?

My voice?

My book?

Doubt crept up. Am I good enough? Can I do this?

Then we started having meetings. I was referred to as an “author”. My work was looked at. My ideas were discussed. And: Yes it was good enough. Yes the ideas had merit. Yes the writing was appealing. Yes the message landed.

“I’d buy that right now,” said the printer repair guy upon hearing the premise. “We need that,” said the Uber Driver eavesdropping on a little book talk. “I loved your book,” a friend said upon reading a version, adding, “I gave it to my mom.”

I’ve been adjusting. I realize it’s good enough. And now it’s time to release it to the world. Which leads me to: How you can help.
